Good afternoon and thanks for sharing a few moments with me....how is your week going ? I do hope it started well...
I am really enjoying blog challenges at the moment and you may remember that last week I joined in with the Less Is More Challenge.....http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.co.uk
Well the new theme is one layer....now those who are regular followers will know that I love using one layer....and trying to create a 3d effect....
The category is Water....
Here is what I came up with....do hope that you like it....
It all started with a piece of 7x7 Gelli card...I stamped the Tropical Fish stamp from Clarity...
Next I stamped the bubbles....yes I know I use this stamp so much...
As I don't have a mask for this stamp I used the wonderful Drawing Gum....it just paints on....dries really quickly ....and is water based ...So your brush just washes clean...
Next I used Jo's Bubbles Stencil with some post it notes...and added some blue ink...
I love to use a combination of stencils , so on with the Seaweed Stencil and more ink..
When the stencils were removed this is what I had...
The drawing gum just rubs away...To reveal clean card....like magic....
Next I added some small dots....see how it brings the bubbles to life...
And some colour to our tropical fish...Oh that does look better....
It still looks a bit flat....so out with the charcoal pencils....
Yes ...that's better.....and a drop of paint....
Job done...
But still one layer....and a flat piece of work...
And plenty of white space....
I do love cards like this that can have a sentiment added at a later date and can be used for a multitude of different occasions ....
Do pop over to the blog and check out the DT work also the rest of the entries....it is a great way to meet new friends....
All the stamps, Stencils, Paint and charcoal pencils are available on the Clarity Web site....
Thanks for looking in and I do love to read your comments and see what you think of my work...
Take care.....
Much Love and Hugs....

This is my first visit to your blog and I am not disappointed, your card is simply stunning! One layer cards usually look too flat for my taste, but you have managed to convey so much dimension here and I am seriously impressed!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, good to meet you and thank you for your lovely comments on my blog...I look forward to crafting with you...hugs...xx
DeleteFab card, Jo , I love it xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love the design.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This is stunning, I have used my charcoal pencils to add a 3d effect after seeing it on your blog but nowhere near as good as yours looks here! The circle with the fish and the bubbles look like they are floating. I will be braver with my shadows as I think I went to light. Thanks Jo. XX
ReplyDeleteFabulous card and a brilliantly explained technique.
ReplyDeleteThis week at less is more it's one layer week but it seems you've added layers which means we can't accept your card this time. That's so sad as your is stunning and otherwise perfect. I do hope you'll play again sometime.

Offcourse....I added the black ...silly me....I was concentrating so much on the design being one layer....oh well.......I will do better next time....we all live and learn....x
DeleteI'm being a bit dim but the card is one layer - the effect is trompe l'oeil - so I'm not sure why it doesn't qualify. Could someone explain to me please? I'm a newbie so dimness is par for the course at the moment :)
DeleteHi Lila, the design is one layer , but then I put it on top of black card....it was so silly of me....
DeleteI should have created the design straight onto the card blank...
I just got so carried away with the design....but I did enjoy it ...xxx
I could have cried Jo and Lila when I saw the mounted panel as the card is FABULOUS! One layer means all the stamping and effects have to be on the one layer which is also the card base. Often I don't send my one layer cards even though I make them for the challenges as they just need that extra support with matting so I would tend to photograph them as one layer then adapt afterwards. I do hope you'll play along again sometime as your work is brilliant. (Sarah, Less is More)
DeleteBless you Sarah....and yes off course I will join in again....love your challenge blog....hugs...xxx
DeleteThank you for the explanations, I understand now but it doesn't detract from the beauty of the card in question. Thanks again for sharing!
DeleteWOW!! What a fabulous 3D effect you have created-thank you so much for sharing how you made this :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,Nessa xx
I love this card, it's absolutely beautiful, I really see what you mean about the bubbles coming to life with the dots too - I'm going to try this. Is it possible to make shadow without charcoal? I don't have any but would be happy to get one to achieve this effect. Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lila, yes you can use a grey pencil crayon...or a soft pencil such as a 4B....but I do find the box of charcoal pencils to be the best ....xxx
Deletetotally gorgeous and you have created so much dimension. brill work xx
ReplyDeleteSimply stunning, I love it,x
ReplyDeletestunning, very creative, well done
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Jo. The faux 3D effect you've achieved here is just brilliant. Xxx
ReplyDeleteabsolutely brilliant Jo - I love the way the image pops from the paper - fabulous xx
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. I love your shading and have to admit i've plucked up the courage to try, quite clumsily, on one or two cards. I've been looking at charcoal pencils any tips on what to go for? i just use whatever is at hand at the moment, mostly hb pencils. Really nicely explained technique too.
ReplyDeleteI use these from Clarity....they come in a tin and there is light, medium and dark....so that helps with the shading....there is also a white pencil on the tin...worth every penny in my opinion...

ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely blown away by the dimension you created with your design, and thank you for the step by step tutorial. Such a shame you mounted onto another layer, I think we all get carried away sometimes.
