Good afternoon all, oh my goodness it is so windy today....I do hope it gets a bit better before tonight....I don't know about you but I hardly slept last night...it was so noisy...
Today I thought I would share a special Birthday card that I made a few weeks ago...you see it was Barbara Gray's Birthday...no pressure....hey...what do you make for such a clever and talented lady...
Well I went for a Clarity Stencil, some Clarity stamps and a bit of a Jo twist...I am sure Barbara won't mind me sharing it with you...
I started with a piece of Gelli card, and I stamped the large Finch onto it...then I took a deep breath and drew the clockwork key......the area was then painted with some drawing gum...now I know we have a mask for the finch but I still needed to mask the key...so this time I used the gum....
Next came the clockwork Stencil and some Distress inks with mini blending tools...
When the stencil was removed , it just needed some depth ....some shade...so out came those favourite charcoal pencils...
I like to lean on a piece of kitchen paper...then I don't spoil my work...
The gum just rubs away , nice and easy...so then I added some colour using Spectrum Noir Pencils...Then some white highlights...
Some matting and layering, and then the letters were added...
I also used the stencil inside the card....I do like to make the inside match....
So there we have it....I do hope you like this...
I did take a deep breath before drawing the key but I totally blame our latest team member Karen Hayselden for giving me the confidence to do it....so a big Thanks Karen....xxx
It is good to try new things....and Karen has made me look at my stamps in a new light....but don't worry...a small key is the extent of my drawing capabilities!!!!!
Thanks for sharing a few minutes with me today...take care and stay safe...
Love and hugs...
Jo. xxxx
I'm sure Barbara loved it Jo. It's very beautiful, really enjoyed the step by step too.
ReplyDeleteWow Jo what a big ask to make a card for Barbara Gray!!!!! I bet she was delighted with it.
ReplyDeleteVery impressed with your drawing capabilities too xxxxx
Jo this is fabulous and thanks for sharing how you achieved it x
ReplyDeleteLove this and the effect you got with the letters to make them look 3D - did you do that by just cutting outside the box and then adding a line of shadow with what? a black or grey pen? Did you lie them flat down or use a sticky pad. Sorry for all the questions but thought it was a great look! Thanks for sharing it and the inspiration :) xx
ReplyDeletep.s. have never seen the gum before either.
DeleteHi Jackie, the letters are cut out with a fine white border, then yes they are raised on foam pads...but I did put a charcoal pencil line to give extra shadow and depth...the Drawing gum is fab...it is water based so your brush just washes clean and it is from Crafters Companion...x
DeleteReally nice card, what a challenge! Well done.x
ReplyDeleteLovely card, I love your use of colour and have learnt to put colours together that i wouldn't of done before. I also love how much depth you add to your cards too. Do you have any tips for where your shading goes or does it just come naturally?
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased that you find inspiration from my little blog....I find the charcoal pencils a brilliant way to add shade and tend to use the lower edge of things....or the left hand side...one tip is to put an arrow in pencil where your light source is and then you shade the opposite side...hugs...xxx
DeleteGreat tip re shading must remember that one. Really lovely card, love the other tip re matching the inside to the front, looks, fab xx
Deletelovely card. like your twist. no pressure then eh? beautiful card with lots of cutting out. you are patient..... hugs xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous make Jo and i love the key! Fabulous addition and works well with the stencil! Hugs rachel x
ReplyDeleteLovely, I am sure Barbara loved this card. Not heard of drawing gum, something else to try but looks very useful. xx
ReplyDeleteThis is a smashing card, such great colours. I ordered the charcoal pencils and have shadowed some stamped images, really pleased with the results as it really looks like they are raised. I like the idea of the masking fluid, I may be ordering that next. XX
ReplyDeleteA very lovely Birthday Card for Barbara. I love your combination with the bird and the stencil. Love your Key too. I use Art Masking Fluid by Daler Rowney. Never tried the one you use. How long can you leave it on your project? Hugs Emma xx
ReplyDeleteHi Emma, thanks for your lovely comments....I am not sure if there is a time limit with the gum, I have used it with a project that took a couple of days and that was o.k. Also it is great with the Aqua tints over the top too....so it is good with water....hope that helps....hugs...xxx
